Is it a feeling? Is it serotonin? It's both. A mental cascade of weightlessness brought forth from atmospheric sounds.
Today's post is a bit random from the stream of things posted previously, but I feel that it's a nice touch on a nice realm of music; or at least a piece of it. Let's get into some songs and albums that will you give you the sense of weightlessness and peace.
Explosions In The Sky- The Wilderness
I don't want to drown this article with post-rock, but Explosions In The Sky is superb in providing that introspective tranquility. Some songs like Logic of a Dream are enchanting but more jarring. Not good for a sense of floating but still atmospheric and sense tingling. Losing the Light and Landing Cliffs are 2 of my favorites when I want to feel weightless and just float with the progression of the song.
ERRA- Drift
ERRA is a progressive metalcore band with a lot of craziness going on. The song Drift off the album of the same name is also amongst the craziness but has a good minute plus of melodic goodness that fits the float feeling for this post. Drifting and floating are quite similar, right?
Turnover- Multiple Songs
I'm a bit shocked I haven't posted about Turnover on this blog yet. They're floaty dream pop that started out as a melodic pop punk band. Not sure if that's the best description but they have 0 bad albums. Temporary Love is the newest of the flowy bops and progresses like an 80's prom slow dance. Intrapersonal is just that, and makes it impossible to not sing along to and is thought provoking. Nightlight Girl is one of my personal favorites and is a bit more instrumentally loud but just like the other songs it also has a great flow to it.
Crywolf- Swimming In The Flood
This one's a part of my playlist post on EDM, but I couldn't resist the repost on this one. Swimming in the Flood is quite literal with its title and paints the feeling of floating along the water to the song.
Hikes- Tinker Creek
Cool story about this song. I had to bring my cat on a 2 hour drive at night and he kept crying until this song came on, and then cried shortly after it ended. I don't know what it did for him, but Tinker Creek starts off super free and floaty, then picks up into a more rambunctious ensemble. Then back down again. Maybe that's what I appreciate about it.
Former Wrestlers- Everyone Knows
A good friend of mine showed me this one. This song has some really nice vocal modulation and some nice reverb. The majority of their content wouldn't fit this post but I'd highly recommend giving them a listen.
Sound is infinite. The flow never stops. I hope you've enjoyed a nice taste of some musically floaty songs. Maybe I'll make a playlist for this and add more to it. Not everything needs a playlist but there's a few more I could add here.
